Winter Landscapes

Let it snow!  Even after the holidays that 2nd graders are excited for the winter season.  2nd grade students at Field Elementary school created their own winter landscape using tempera paint and construction paper.  Students used blue and white paint to create tints of each "mountain" of snow in their landscape.

Students were able to access prior knowledge of perspective and understand that objects that are closer are bigger while objects that are farther away appear smaller.  By the end of the year, students will be able to identify foreground, middle ground, and background.

They were also very excited to learn a new painting technique: SPLATTER painting.  Following directions for this painting technique is very important.  All 2nd graders did a fabulous job!
